Welcome to the Kids In Distress Auxiliary 2021-2022 season of raising awareness, volunteer/service opportunities and fundraising to support Kids in Distress.
I am excited to serve as the President of the KID Auxiliary for a second year. My husband Peter and I have been supporters of Kids in Distress for over 20 years. After joining the Auxiliary in 2014, I spent my first year as a member volunteering and attending meetings to truly understand the mission of the Auxiliary. From there I spent three years as the Corresponding Secretary and shared Event VP duties for the KID Hero 5K with Kathie Methven for two years. The continued love and dedication I feel from our members, their families and sponsors to the children and families of KID makes me so proud to be a part of this organization.
With our over 160 Auxiliary members and 50+ Kids Helping Kid (KHK) teens we are able to continue supporting KID throughout the year starting with a Backpack collection for the first day of school for 165 children, Costume collection for Halloween, Food Drive for Thanksgiving, assisting the Agency with their Santa Spectacular in December and Easter Baskets in the Spring.
Our Respite program, Kinship and Special Activities for the KID Preschool are few of our opportunities that allow us to be “hands on” with the families that live on campus and are served by the Agency.
Our fundraising efforts are supported by our Bingo event in the Fall or Spring and our Signature Event – the KID HERO 5k scheduled for January, 2022 at Vista View Park in Davie.
While 2020-2021 was like no other for the Auxiliary and we met throughout the year via ZOOM, we rose to the challenge and worked tirelessly to support the children and families of KID. We were able to successfully pivot and provide more service and support to the Agency while continuing to fundraise. We had record numbers for our Thanksgiving Food Drive led by KHK, fundraising for the KID Hero 5/10K and provided over 300 meals to the foster homes on campus in Wilton Manors and Southwest Ranches.
While there is still a level of uncertainty due to COVID-19 my goals for the upcoming year are to continue to grow our membership, engage our current members and find new ways to share our mission.
I once again look forward to working with our phenomenal board this year and getting to know more of our members during the year - hopefully in person.
Thank you to our members, sponsors, friends and families who have continued to support the KID Auxiliary for the past 36 years!
Together, we will make what seems impossible, KIDpossible.
